In response to one of the more useful criticisms below, this lamp is *of course* not made of real stained glass. Considering the weight and price there is no way it could be. The entire shade is pure plastic and it's obvious from the moment you see or touch it. And in response to another of the negative reviews, it is not supposed to look expensive; it is supposed to look pretty in your middle-class living room, which would otherwise be lit by something from Target or IKEA. And in reality, the lamp is just as good-looking as the picture makes it out to be; the pole is real bronzed metal; and the floor switch is nicely inconspicuous and easy to use (unlike the hated twist switches). The socket is rated for 100W incandescent, but since you can't *buy* that kind of bulb anymore that's irrelevant. It is working quite well with a 30W (125W equivalent) CFL bulb, and although in principle could hold an even larger one, I was hesitant to go too much higher because I was afraid a larger bulb would generate more heat in the fixture even if it used less overall power. This lamp can thus comfortably light a room of about 12x12 feet; you'd probably want two for your living room. Which is just fine, since they are really nice.

One note: whoever wrote that the packaging is frustrating is totally right. The thing comes in a big cubical box tightly cushioned in the worst styrofoam you have ever seen. It flies apart into horrible static dots when torn, and you *have* to tear it in order to unpack, because the box is so tight. You'll almost certainly have to vacuum afterwards, but with care you can keep the mess contained. Don't do this near any carpet.
