This was supposed to have round red inserts on a white background. The top inserts are a medium purple (not even close to a red hue) with amber inserts on the bottom. The white background has multiple swirls ingrained in it so looks like a psychadelic pattern when you turn on the bulb...not the look I was going for. I have many lamps from this company so am very disappointed that this is so far off the color scheme.

Upon close inspection, the black beads on the rim and the "glue" in between glass pieces are just cheap plastic. The lamp shade is too opaque that it doesn't glow when the light is turned on. It lets a small amount of light to pass through, making the lower part of the room orange, while the upper part and the ceiling are white. Weird.

The lamp is pale in comparison to a table lamp that I own. The table lamp also of colored glass design, but it looks much more brilliant when the light is on. The reason is because the table lamp mixes clear glass with colored glass elements, projecting different colors and shades on the wall.

Other than that, the rest of the lamp is decent and to be expected at this price range. The pole is made of aluminum which is painted to create faux bronze. Unfortunately the white color of the aluminum is clearly visible between the 3 sections that make up the pole. The base is probably iron, also painted to create faux bronze color, which is not even close. The lamp is heavy enough to stand solidly on its own without wobbling. There is some room under the base to retract the power cord into it for neater wiring.

It works well with compact fluorescent light bulb. There's only an on and off position on the switch near the lamp shade.

I regret not spending more money on a real Tiffany.

Replogle Globes Leather Expedition Globe, 12-Inch Diameter Review

This is a beautiful globe but unfortunately I cannot recommend it due to large flaws that detract from its use.

The first globe I ordered came with a few misaligned latitude lines (which I was willing to overlook), and more importantly, some slits in the leather that looked like they would catch and possibly peel with regular handling. I called Replogle, and, after sharing photos with a helpful employee who seemed genuinely concerned with the issues, was generously offered a replacement ball that arrived via express mail. This new ball is very smooth but has significant misalignment that resulted in cropped names (the first letter of a number of countries in W. Africa and Europe was cropped, sometimes by half) and misaligned country boundaries along the same vertical line.

If you're not looking closely the globe is quite lovely, but cursory inspection turns up a number of flaws that should not appear on a $200 product (especially one meant as a gift). If you're interested in this globe I would encourage you to buy it at a store so you can inspect it and decide if you're willing to live with the flaws. Or try your luck here - as I said, Replogle had wonderful customer service and may get these production problems worked out in the future. Until then, I won't be buying another Replogle product unless I see it in person.
