A project came up where I needed to cut a lot of matte board. A decent matte board cutter is a serious investment and they are usually only good for cutting photo mattes. I needed something that could be precise, while at the same time handle the thick matte board. This cutter filled that need perfectly. I thought that I would have to apply some serious pressure to the blade guide to get it to cut the mattes, since it really isn't designed for it, but the pressure needed was really not that great. The guide arm is of decent construction and can handle the force of the thick matte pushing against it and not distort as the blade guide is drawn down to make the cut. The blade housing is comfortable against the hand and doesn't cause fatigue, even after hours and hours on top of this thing. I can't yet speak to how easy it is to change a blade yet, but I do like that it comes with a storage compartment, lower left side, that holds additional blades (it comes with a blade loaded in the cutter, an additional straight cutter and a blade for perforated cuts) and an additional blade protector. The blades protector runs underneath the entire cut path of the blade and protects the blade from dulling. You can use both sides of the protector before having to replace it, again I'm not there yet. Basically, this cutter is well thought out and is worth the price of admission. There are, of course, things about it that might make it less desirable for certain users. The green sheet holder that is underneath the blade guide rail, while allowing you to easily find where the blade will cut, gets in the way when you need to make delicate pieces. In order to position smaller objects you need to have a push stick which bothers me a little, I prefer my hands, and is the only reason this did not get 5 starts. I can't recommend this cutter enough though. I have used a fair share of these things and often the performance isn't what you would expect for the money you paid, but this one is an exception.
