Balt Privacy Study Carrel Review

I wanted to buy a study carrel, such as you find in a library, in order to have some dedicated quiet space at home for writing. After considerable shopping, I determined that the Balt Privacy Study carrel was the best deal.

Having now purchased and assembled it, I still think it's the best bang for buck available in carrels. However, a couple of small improvements could have made it quite a bit better.

First, because carrels block light as well as sound, they need to have a light under the shelf to illuminate the surface. This one did not come with a light, nor an option to buy a light, nor even pre-drilled holes in which you might fix a light. To add a light, which you will need, you must drill holes, etc. (By the way, you will probably want a fluorescent or LED light strip, as anything else would generate too much heat and could be fire hazard.)

Second, although the assembly instructions were excellent, assembly was quite a process. A little more work back at the factory would have been nice.

Nonetheless, I shopped around for this item, and unless you want to spend a lot more (there are certainly nicer carrels, some cost $1,000+), you would do well enough to get this one. If I had it all to do over again, I would still buy this carrel.
