Royal Consumer HD180MX Cross Cut Shredder Review

I found one of these Royal HD180MX's at my local BJ's for $110 because it was an open box item. I had been looking around for a shredder for a while because my old shredder which was an Aurora AS890C 8-Sheet Cross-Cut Paper/Credit Card Shredder with Basket got jammed and I couldnt unjam it so I had to throw it away. I was thinking of getting a Fellowes 3229901 PowerShred 99Ci 17 Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder for a really long time but I just couldnt bring myself to spend $200 on a paper shredder. When I saw this at a discounted price of $110 at my local store and I saw that it was an 18 sheet cross cut paper shredder I thought it would be an awesome deal so I purchased it. I tried this Royal shredder out by putting in those junk mail credit card applications that I get in the mail all the time in it completely with the envelope and this shredder had no problems shredding them, I also tried shredding other stuff like credit cards, 10 sheets of paper at a time, 14 sheets at a time and had no issues with the shredder. The only complaint that I could give it is that the shredder shreds a little bit slow and some of the other reviews on similar Royal shredders said that the rollers break after a couple of months but I havent had it for that long so we will see how it goes after ive had it for a while. This shredder has an on/off switch that usually isnt found on other shredders, im not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing because its good that the shredder wont be using up electricity all the time while its plugged in but im not sure if the other shredders that stay idle when not in use really use that much electricity while their idle. This Royal shredder also has a pretty large waste basket that slides out which is a big plus if you hate emptying the waste basket often when shredding alot of documents.

In conclusion, if you can get this shredder for a good price it seems like a pretty good shredder so far to me. It has no problems shredding junk mail credit card applications, and up to 14 sheets at a time of paper. I havent tried 18 sheets at a time yet but if it did 14 im pretty sure it can do 18 pretty easily. This is a great everyday shredder to have at home.
