Right out of the box the microscope worked great. Software loaded right up and we were able to project some great images. I would rate the overall experience fantastic if there had been some assembly instructions included in the box or a note to go to You Tube for the demonstration video which was well done and very informative. Also at the time of the purchase making sure that the buyer knows that they are not going to get any slides (not even one) might have prompted an add on purchase and a lot less scrambling around trying to find sides locally during the birthday party.
