The inside is very soft material and has a padded compartment that would protect your laptop or tablet. There are several other compartments for small items (pens, business cards, cell phone, etc) as well as additional areas for files and papers. It comes with a shoulder strap although he prefers not to use it. He does not have to carry a lot of things back and forth from the office so this 15" is the perfect size for him. I ordered the chocolate and the color is exactly like it is in the photo. It took him only a few minutes to empty the old briefcase and organize everything in this one. He was very pleased with the amount it holds and the quality and look of the case. I was thrilled I got such a great deal on a beautiful, quality case!
