I bought this product for my mother to use as a pocket translator and to help her learn English. The GD390 is light in weight and very portable, but it did not meet my expectations on a user level.

First of all, for an item that cost $130, I expected it to be a little more advanced and user friendly than those $40~50 models. GD390 monitor does not have screen light at all, making reading the text very difficult. You need to be in a very bright area to read the screen without holding it close to you. If you are not in a well lit area, then this product is almost useless. Second, for this kind of product, I expected a well written manual or at least some sort of on-screen tutorial to at least walk you through the different functions. I mean, what good is it's multi-function if you don't teach users how to use/access them? Ok, so no user manual, I'm a fairly intelligent adult, surely I can work it out by myself, right? Wrong, the menus and the various functions are not that intuitive, you will have to spent a long time getting to know and getting used to the machine before it's fully accessible to you.

Overall, I was not very pleased. $130 can almost get me a mini laptop or tablet so I expected a pretty well made product and customer friendly controls/instructions. What I end up getting is a machine labeled multi-fuction but only with lots of different types of dictionaries programmed in. It does get the job done, but only after countless hours of toying with the different menus and buttons. And I hate the dark, hard to read screen. Suffice it to say, my not so tech-savvy mother did not thoroughly enjoy the product. Even though she appreciated the gesture, the product did not meet her or my expectations.
